Bloggin'

This is my second entry into the blog world and I'm still trying to figure out the whole "writing down your thoughts" thing, so if you're reading this, bear with me.

Tonight is Maunday Thursday, the night Jesus shared the Last Supper with his disciples. We at St. Anne's in Stockton celebrate this event with a Haggadah or "Retelling" of the Israelite fight from the Egyptians otherwise know as a Seder. Although it's a Christian rendition of the Jewish Passover, it demonstrates how our traditions have Jewish roots. The central act of Episcopalians is sharing the Eucharist, or the "Lord's Supper".... Last Supper, Lord's Supper.... same thing. cool, huh?

Tonight is also when members of our parish sit watch at the church, taking an hour to sit with Jesus, much like the scripture verse "can you not stay awake for an hour?". In the past, there have never been too many participants. Mainly because there have not been enough heart souls willing to stay awake through the night. (Geez, most of the folks in church have been in their 60's-70's and need the sleep) This year, we have enough folks to fill each hour. I'll spend my hour reading Presiding Bishop Jefferts-Schori's book, "Wing and a Prayer". I quess you can call it research since I'll be driving her around the diocese when she arrived in the valley to preside over our Special Convention to seat an interim bishop. (more on that at another time...) presently, I must take my turn at the church.
Tah.
